What Is BIM?
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is both a technology and a methodology. Unlike CAD, where lines represent geometry, BIM uses intelligent objects: a wall 'knows' its material, fire rating, thermal properties, and cost. When you draw a wall in Revit, it automatically generates plan views, sections, elevations, schedules, and quantities. Changes propagate everywhere—move a window on the plan and it updates in every section and elevation simultaneously. BIM enables architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and contractors to work on a shared, coordinated model, reducing errors, clashes, and change orders during construction.
