CUET Language Section Structure and Three-Read Strategy
CUET Section IA (English) and Section IB (Regional Languages) present 50 questions each β candidates attempt 40 β in 45 minutes. Questions cover Reading Comprehension (3β4 passages, approximately 20β25 questions), Vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, approximately 12β15 questions), and Grammar (error correction, sentence improvement, fill in the blank, approximately 10β12 questions). The three-read strategy for RC passages: Read 1 (90 seconds) β read only the first and last sentence of each paragraph to identify the passage's central theme and structure. Read 2 (60 seconds) β read each question before reading the paragraph it refers to, so your reading of that paragraph is question-directed. Read 3 (30 seconds per answer) β verify your answer by locating the exact relevant sentence in the passage. This strategy processes each paragraph only once but directs that reading toward the questions, reducing total time per passage from 4 minutes (full read first) to 2.5 minutes. For 3 passages totalling approximately 25 questions, this saves 4β5 minutes β enough for 4β5 additional vocabulary or grammar questions.
