Bidirectional Power Flow Concepts
Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) allows an EV battery to discharge power back to the electrical grid, effectively turning parked EVs into a distributed energy storage fleet. Vehicle-to-home (V2H) powers a household during grid outages—a 75 kWh EV battery can power an average home for over two days. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) provides AC outlet power from the vehicle for tools, camping appliances, or emergency power. The Ford F-150 Lightning offers 9.6 kW of V2L power through its onboard outlets. These capabilities transform the EV from a transportation device into a mobile energy asset.
