OCPP and Networked Charging
The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is the industry-standard communication protocol between charging stations and a central management system. OCPP 2.0.1 supports smart charging profiles that control when and how fast each charger operates. The central system can send charging profiles that limit power during peak rate periods, distribute available capacity among connected vehicles based on departure time and energy need, and respond to utility demand response signals. OCPP also enables remote diagnostics, firmware updates, and payment processing—essential for commercial charging networks.
