Mobile Evidence Sources
Smartphones are the richest single source of digital evidence in modern investigations. A typical smartphone contains: call logs (incoming, outgoing, missed, with timestamps and duration), text messages and messaging app conversations (WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram), email, contacts, calendar events, photographs and videos (with EXIF metadata including GPS coordinates), web browsing history and bookmarks, social media app data, GPS/location history, Wi-Fi connection logs (showing locations visited), application usage data, financial transactions (mobile banking, payment apps), health and fitness data (steps, heart rate, sleep patterns), and voice assistant queries. Even 'deleted' messages and photos often persist in SQLite databases or application caches. The sheer volume—a single phone may yield 50,000+ data points—requires systematic analysis and case-relevant filtering.
