Eyes Built for Darkness

Owls are NOCTURNAL — they are active at night and sleep during the day. While you are tucked in bed, owls are wide awake hunting! Being nocturnal is an adaptation — fewer predators are active at night, and there is less competition for food. Most owls wake up at dusk (sunset), hunt through the night, and go to sleep at dawn (sunrise). Some owls, like the snowy owl, are actually diurnal (active during the day) because in the Arctic, there is constant daylight in summer!
