What Is an Owl Pellet?
Owls swallow their prey WHOLE β bones, fur, feathers, and all! Their stomach separates the nutritious meat from the indigestible parts (bones, teeth, claws, fur, insect shells). The good stuff gets digested, but the leftover bones and fur get compressed into a compact oval ball called a PELLET. About 6 to 10 hours after eating, the owl coughs up the pellet β HACK! Out it comes. Pellets are dry and do not smell bad. They are gray or brown and about 1 to 3 inches long.
