The Big Owls
The Great Horned Owl is one of the most powerful owls in North America. Its 'horns' are actually feather tufts — not real horns! It has a wingspan of nearly 5 feet. The Snowy Owl is a large, white owl that lives in the Arctic tundra. Males are almost pure white; females have dark bars. The Eurasian Eagle-Owl is one of the LARGEST owls in the world — it can have a wingspan of over 6 feet and weigh 10 pounds. These big owls are apex predators — nothing hunts them!
