Planning Your Project
For your final project, you get to design and create your own clay sculpture! What will you make?
Here are some project ideas:
Animal sculpture: use a pinch pot for the body, coils for legs and tail, and small pinched shapes for ears and face features. A turtle, owl, hedgehog, or snake are great first animals.
Jewelry dish: make a shallow pinch pot and decorate it with stamps, textures, and painted designs. Perfect for holding rings and bracelets on a dresser.
Miniature house: use slabs for the walls and roof. Add coil details like window frames and a chimney. Add small slab rectangles for doors and windows.
Name plaque: roll out a slab, cut a rectangle or fun shape, and carve your name into it with a stick. Add small clay decorations around the edges.
Fruit bowl: make a larger pinch pot and add a coil base so it sits up off the table. Decorate the outside with fruit shapes β tiny clay apples, oranges, and bananas.
Before you start, draw a sketch of your project on paper. This is your design plan! Think about which techniques you will use for each part.
