The First Olympic Games

The Olympic Games began in ancient Greece almost 3,000 years ago, in 776 BC! They were held every four years in a place called Olympia to honor Zeus, the king of the gods. Athletes came from all over Greece to compete. During the Games, all wars had to stop so athletes could travel safely. The Games were so important that the Greeks used them to count years!
