Plants are living things, just like you! And just like you need food, water, and a place to live, plants need certain things to survive and grow.

Most people know that plants need water and sunlight. But do they REALLY need both? What if a plant only gets water but no sunlight? What if it gets sunlight but no water? What if it does not have soil?

These are great science questions! And the only way to find out the answers is to do experiments. Today you are going to set up three different experiments to test what plants truly need.

But we are not going to just plant seeds and hope for the best. We are going to use a special scientific technique called a controlled experiment. This is how real scientists test their ideas!
