New Experiments to Try
You have mastered the basics of static electricity. Now try these advanced experiments!
The Dancing Tissue Paper Ghost: Cut a small ghost shape from tissue paper. Charge your balloon and hold it above the ghost. The ghost will dance and jump toward the balloon! Can you make it dance without touching it?
The Bending Water Trick: Turn on a faucet to get a very thin stream of water. Charge your balloon, then slowly bring it near the water (but do not touch it). The water stream bends toward the balloon! This works because water molecules have charges that are attracted to the charged balloon.
The Rolling Can: Put an empty aluminum can on its side on a smooth table. Charge your balloon and hold it near the can. The can rolls toward the balloon! The static charge in the balloon attracts the charges in the metal can.
