A Trip to the Farmer's Market
Farmer's markets are outdoor markets where local farmers sell food they grew themselves. They usually happen once a week in a town square, parking lot, or park.
What you will find at a farmer's market:
- Fruits and vegetables: Freshly picked, sometimes that very morning!
- Eggs: From local chickens, often with beautiful brown, white, or even blue shells
- Bread and baked goods: Made by local bakers with local ingredients
- Honey: From local beekeepers β local honey is special because it contains pollen from flowers near you
- Cheese: Small-batch cheese from local dairies
- Flowers: Beautiful bouquets grown on local flower farms
- Preserves: Jams, pickles, and sauces made from local produce
The best part of farmer's markets? You can TALK to the person who grew your food! Ask them:
- What is in season right now?
- How do you cook this vegetable?
- When was this picked?
- Can I try a sample?
Farmers love to talk about their food and share cooking tips!
