What Is a Region?
The United States is a BIG country with 50 states! To make it easier to learn about, geographers divide it into 5 REGIONS. A region is a large area where the states share similar weather, land features, and ways of life.
The 5 regions of the United States:
1. NORTHEAST: States in the upper right corner, along the Atlantic Ocean. Includes New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and others.
2. SOUTHEAST: States in the lower right, warm and near the ocean. Includes Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and others.
3. MIDWEST: States in the middle of the country, flat farmland. Includes Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, and others.
4. SOUTHWEST: States in the lower left, hot and dry. Includes Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and others.
5. WEST: States on the left side, with mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Includes California, Washington, Colorado, and others.
