Natural Landmarks
The United States has incredible NATURAL landmarks β places formed by nature over millions of years:
GRAND CANYON (Southwest): A HUGE canyon carved by the Colorado River over millions of years. It is over a mile deep and 277 miles long! When you look down from the edge, you can see layers of red, orange, and brown rock that tell the story of Earth's history.
NIAGARA FALLS (Northeast): Massive waterfalls on the border between New York and Canada. The water crashes down with so much power that you can hear it from far away! The mist creates beautiful rainbows.
YELLOWSTONE (West): America's first national park! It has geysers (hot water that shoots into the air β Old Faithful erupts about every 90 minutes!), hot springs with amazing blue and orange colors, and grizzly bears and bison.
EVERGLADES (Southeast): A giant river of grass in southern Florida. It is home to alligators, manatees, and hundreds of bird species. It is one of the most unique ecosystems in the world.
GREAT LAKES (Midwest): Five enormous lakes that look like oceans! Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario contain 20% of the world's fresh water.
