Climate Shapes Life
The weather and climate of a region affects almost EVERYTHING about life there:
What people WEAR:
- Northeast: Heavy coats, boots, and scarves in winter. Light clothes in summer.
- Southeast: Shorts and t-shirts most of the year. Sunscreen always!
- Midwest: Layers! Hot summers need shorts. Cold winters need warm jackets.
- Southwest: Light clothes, hats for sun protection, sunglasses.
- West: Depends! Beach clothes near the coast, ski gear in the mountains.
What people DO for fun:
- Northeast: Ice skating, skiing, apple picking, watching fall leaves
- Southeast: Swimming, surfing, fishing, visiting theme parks
- Midwest: Farming festivals, lake swimming, sledding, state fairs
- Southwest: Hiking in canyons, horseback riding, stargazing in clear desert skies
- West: Surfing, skiing, hiking, visiting national parks
What people EAT often depends on what grows well in their region. The Southwest has lots of peppers and beans. The Southeast has peaches and pecans. The Midwest has corn and dairy.
