Animals Live Where They Fit
Have you ever wondered why polar bears live in the Arctic but NOT in Africa? Or why kangaroos live in Australia but NOT in Europe? It is because animals live where the climate and environment are RIGHT for them.
A HABITAT is the natural home of an animal. It provides everything the animal needs: food, water, shelter, and the right temperature.
A polar bear needs cold weather, ice, and seals to eat. It would overheat in a hot desert!
A camel needs a hot, dry desert. It would freeze in the Arctic!
A monkey needs trees, fruits, and a warm forest. A flat, cold prairie would not work!
Over millions of years, animals have ADAPTED to their habitats. They developed special features that help them survive:
- Thick fur for cold places
- Camouflage to hide from predators
- Long necks to reach tall trees
- Webbed feet for swimming
That is why you find certain animals ONLY in certain parts of the world!
