Who Are Trusted Adults?
A trusted adult is a grown-up you can talk to when you feel unsafe, scared, or confused. They will listen to you, believe you, and help you. Everyone should have at least 3-5 trusted adults they can go to.
Trusted adults might include:
- Parents or guardians
- Grandparents, aunts, uncles
- Teachers
- School counselors
- Coaches
- Neighbors you know well
- Family friends your parents trust
- Police officers
- Firefighters
How do you know if an adult is trusted? They make you feel safe. They listen when you talk. They do not ask you to keep secrets. They respect your boundaries. They have a history of being kind and helpful.
Important: if you tell one trusted adult and they do not help you or believe you, tell ANOTHER trusted adult. Keep telling until someone helps. It is that important!
