Sorting Fiction and Nonfiction

You can often tell if a book is fiction or nonfiction just by looking at the COVER!

Fiction covers usually have:

• ILLUSTRATIONS (drawings, not photos)

• Characters doing something in a story scene

• A creative, story-like title

Nonfiction covers usually have:

• PHOTOGRAPHS of the real subject

• A title that tells you the TOPIC

• Words like 'facts,' 'guide,' or 'how to'
