What Is Symmetry?
Symmetry means that one half of something is a MIRROR IMAGE of the other half. If you fold a symmetrical object along the middle, both halves match up perfectly!
The line where you fold is called the LINE OF SYMMETRY. Some objects have just one line of symmetry. Others have many!
A butterfly has ONE line of symmetry β right down the middle of its body. The left wing is a mirror image of the right wing, with the same colors, patterns, and shapes on both sides.
A starfish has FIVE lines of symmetry β you can fold it along any of its five arms and the halves match!
A circle has INFINITE lines of symmetry β you can fold it along any diameter and the halves match. That is a lot of symmetry!
