Doubling & Halving Recipes

The recipe makes 4 pancakes, but Maya needs 8 for her family! That's DOUBLE.

Doubling means multiply everything by 2 (or add each number to itself):

1 cup flour → 1 + 1 = 2 cups

1 egg → 1 + 1 = 2 eggs

1/2 cup milk → 1/2 + 1/2 = 1 cup

2 tbsp butter → 2 + 2 = 4 tbsp

1 tbsp sugar → 1 + 1 = 2 tbsp

Doubled recipe makes 4 + 4 = 8 pancakes!

**Think About It:** Notice that 1/2 + 1/2 = 1 whole cup. Doubling a fraction can give a whole number!
