Counting Back on the Number Line

Counting back is a great subtraction strategy. Start at the bigger number and count backward by the amount you are subtracting. For 8-3, start at 8 and count back 3: 7, 6, 5. The answer is 5. On a number line, this looks like hopping to the left.
