Building Measures with Notes
Now you know three types of notes and three types of rests. You can combine them in many different ways to fill measures!
Remember the rule: every measure needs exactly 4 beats total. You can use any combination of notes and rests as long as they add up to 4.
Here are some possible measures:
- 4 quarter notes: ta-ta-ta-ta (1+1+1+1=4)
- 2 half notes: ta-a, ta-a (2+2=4)
- 1 whole note: ta-a-a-a (4=4)
- 1 half + 2 quarters: ta-a, ta, ta (2+1+1=4)
- 2 quarters + 1 half: ta, ta, ta-a (1+1+2=4)
- 3 quarters + 1 quarter rest: ta, ta, ta, shh (1+1+1+1=4)
- 1 half + 1 half rest: ta-a, shh-shh (2+2=4)
There are so many combinations! Each one creates a different rhythm pattern. Some sound bouncy, some sound smooth, some have exciting pauses.
