The Fix-It Game
Many common meals are close to balanced but missing one or two groups. Let us fix them!
Pizza night: Pizza has grains (crust), dairy (cheese), and sometimes protein (pepperoni). Missing: vegetables and fruit!
Fix: Add a side salad (vegetables) and a fruit cup (fruit). Now it is balanced!
Mac and cheese: Has grains (pasta) and dairy (cheese). Missing: protein, vegetables, fruit!
Fix: Stir in some chicken or broccoli, serve with apple slices on the side.
PB&J sandwich: Has grains (bread) and protein (peanut butter). Missing: dairy, vegetables, fruit!
Fix: Add a glass of milk (dairy), carrot sticks (vegetables), and grapes (fruit).
Chicken nuggets and fries: Has protein (chicken) and grains/starch (fries). Missing: dairy, vegetables, fruit!
Fix: Dip nuggets in ranch (dairy), add a side of steamed broccoli (vegetables), and strawberries (fruit).
See the pattern? Most easy meals cover 2-3 groups. Adding 1-2 simple sides makes them complete!
