Switches and Safety

A switch is a device that opens or closes a gap in a circuit. When the switch is ON (closed), the circuit is complete and electricity flows — the light turns on! When the switch is OFF (open), there is a gap in the circuit and electricity stops — the light turns off! Every light switch in your house works this way. Flip it up — circuit closes, light on. Flip it down — circuit opens, light off. Simple and brilliant!
