Pulleys — Lift It Up!

A pulley is a wheel with a rope wrapped around it. When you pull the rope down, the load on the other end goes up! That is the magic of a pulley — it lets you pull DOWN to lift something UP. Pulling down is easier because gravity helps you. Think of raising a flag on a flagpole: you pull the rope down, and the flag goes up. That is a pulley at work!
