Worms and Decomposers

Earthworms are soil superheroes! As they tunnel through the soil, they create air passages that help plant roots breathe. They eat dead leaves and soil, and their waste (called castings) is the richest fertilizer in nature! Worm castings are full of nutrients that help plants grow. Worms also mix the soil layers together as they move up and down. A healthy garden can have over a million worms under just one acre!
