Sound Travels Everywhere

Sound does not just travel through air — it travels through solid things too! Put your ear against a table and have someone knock on the other end. You can hear it clearly! Sound actually travels FASTER through solids than through air because the molecules are packed closer together. When a train is coming, you can sometimes hear it through the metal rails before you hear it through the air. That is sound traveling through a solid!
