You Are the Boss of Your Anger
You have learned amazing skills for managing anger. Let us put them all together:
Step 1: NOTICE β Check your body. Hot face? Clenched fists? Fast heart? Anger is building.
Step 2: STOP β Do not react right away. Pause. Give yourself a moment.
Step 3: BREATHE β Take 5 deep belly breaths. In through the nose, out through the mouth.
Step 4: THINK β What level am I on the anger thermometer? What strategy should I use?
Step 5: CHOOSE β Pick a helpful action. Use an I-statement, walk away, count to 10, or ask for help.
Step 6: REFLECT β After you calm down, think about what happened. What triggered your anger? What strategy worked? What would you do differently next time?
You are the BOSS of your anger. Anger does not control you β you control how you respond to it. That is an incredible power!
