Meet the Mammoth
Woolly mammoths were MASSIVE β about the same size as modern African elephants, standing 11 feet tall and weighing up to 6 tons! They had long, curved tusks that could be 15 feet long, used for sweeping snow off grass and fighting rivals. Their bodies were covered in thick, shaggy fur β some hairs were 3 feet long! Underneath the fur was a 3-inch layer of fat (blubber) for insulation. Their small ears and short tails minimized heat loss in the freezing cold. Woolly mammoths were perfectly built for the Ice Age!
