The Biggest Fish
The whale shark is the BIGGEST FISH in the ocean — up to 40 feet long and weighing up to 20 tons! But despite the word 'whale' in its name, it is NOT a whale — it is a true shark! Whale sharks are fish with gills, a cartilage skeleton, and five gill slits on each side. Each whale shark has a unique pattern of spots and stripes, like a fingerprint — scientists use photo identification to tell them apart. Whale sharks can live over 100 years!
