Electroreception β The Sixth Sense
Sharks have a superpower that no human has β ELECTRORECEPTION! Every living creature produces tiny electrical fields when its muscles move or its heart beats. Sharks have special organs called AMPULLAE OF LORENZINI β gel-filled pores on their snouts that detect these electrical signals. A shark can sense the heartbeat of a fish hiding under sand! Hammerhead sharks have the most ampullae because their wide heads give them a larger detection area. This sense works even in complete darkness.
