Humpback Songs
Male humpback whales sing the most complex songs in the animal kingdom! A single song can last 10 to 20 minutes and be repeated for HOURS. The songs include moans, howls, cries, and clicks in intricate patterns. All males in a region sing the same song, and the song slowly changes over the season — by the end of winter, the song sounds completely different from the beginning! Scientists think songs help males attract females and communicate territory. Whale songs can travel thousands of miles through the ocean.
