Building Blocks of a House
Drawing buildings is a lot like building with blocks β you stack simple shapes on top of each other!
The most basic house is just TWO shapes:
A SQUARE or RECTANGLE for the walls (the main body of the house)
A TRIANGLE on top for the roof
That is the starting point for every house drawing, from a tiny cottage to a grand mansion. The square is the walls and the triangle is the roof. Simple!
Now add the features:
A RECTANGLE in the center-bottom of the wall for the front door. The door should be about half the height of the wall and wide enough for a person.
SQUARES on either side of the door for windows. Most houses have at least two front windows. Place them evenly, the same distance from the door on each side.
A small RECTANGLE on the roof for a chimney. Place it off to one side, not right in the center.
See? Using just squares, rectangles, and a triangle, you have drawn a recognizable house! Now let us add details to make it look real.
