What Is a Comic Strip?
A comic strip tells a story using pictures and words together! Each picture shows one moment of the story, and you read them in order from left to right, top to bottom, just like reading a book.
Comic strips are everywhere β in newspapers, books, magazines, and online. Some famous comic strips you might know are Peanuts (with Charlie Brown and Snoopy), Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and Dog Man.
What makes comic strips special is that they combine TWO art forms: drawing and writing. The pictures show what is happening, and the words show what characters are saying and thinking. Together, they tell a story that is both visual and written.
Comic strips can be funny, adventurous, scary, educational, or anything else. They can be short (just three panels for a quick joke) or long (hundreds of pages for a graphic novel). Today you are going to learn how to create your own!
