Designing Your Character
Every comic needs a main character β a hero, a funny friend, a brave adventurer, or a silly pet! Let us design yours.
The best comic characters are SIMPLE to draw. Why? Because you need to draw them many times across many panels. If your character has 50 tiny details, you will spend all your time on details instead of telling the story!
Start with a basic shape for the head. Circles are the most common β think Charlie Brown, Snoopy, or emoji faces. You can also use ovals, squares (like SpongeBob), or rounded rectangles.
Add a simple body. Stick figures work great for comics! Or draw a simple bean shape or rectangle body. Add arms and legs.
Now make your character unique with a FEW key features:
A signature hairstyle: spiky hair, pigtails, a mohawk, curly afro
Special clothing: a cape, a hat, a striped shirt, overalls
An accessory: glasses, a bandana, a pet on their shoulder
A unique feature: big ears, freckles, a missing tooth
Pick just two or three key features that make your character recognizable. Then draw them the same way every single time!
