Cracking and Beating Eggs
Scrambled eggs are a protein powerhouse! Each egg has 6 grams of protein plus vitamins A, D, and B12. Here is how kids can help:
Cracking eggs (your job!):
1. Tap the egg firmly on the edge of a bowl β one sharp tap
2. Hold the egg over the bowl with both hands
3. Pull the shell apart with your thumbs at the crack
4. Let the egg drop into the bowl
5. Check for shell pieces β fish them out with a bigger piece of shell (it is easier than using your finger!)
Beating eggs (your job!):
1. Add a tiny splash of milk (about 1 tablespoon per egg)
2. Use a fork or whisk
3. Beat until the yolks and whites are completely mixed β you should see a uniform yellow color with no white streaks
4. About 30 seconds of whisking
Eggs to crack for different numbers:
- 1-2 people: 2-3 eggs
- Family of 4: 6-8 eggs
Practice cracking eggs! The first few might be messy, but you will get better fast.
