The Silk Road was not one road but a network of trade routes connecting China to the Mediterranean Sea, over 4,000 miles away! Merchants traveled on camels through deserts, over mountains, and across vast grasslands. The journey could take months or even years. Traders exchanged silk, spices, gold, precious stones, and ideas between East and West.
