Daily Life in Ancient Rome

Wealthy Romans lived in large houses called domus with beautiful courtyards, gardens, and mosaic floors. Most regular people lived in apartment buildings called insulae that could be five or six stories high! Romans ate bread, olives, cheese, fruits, and fish. Rich Romans had feasts with exotic foods and reclined on couches while eating. Their favorite condiment was a salty fish sauce called garum.
