Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea

In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the western United States. Their mission was to find a route to the Pacific Ocean, map the land, and learn about the plants, animals, and Native peoples they would meet. They formed the Corps of Discovery with about 33 people and set off from St. Louis, Missouri, traveling by boat up the Missouri River.
