Before electric lights, people used candles, oil lamps, and gas lamps. When it got dark, there was not much you could do! Thomas Edison and his team worked on creating a practical light bulb. After testing thousands of materials, they found that a carbonized bamboo filament could glow for over 1,200 hours. In 1879, Edison demonstrated his light bulb, and the world was never dark again!
