The Challenge
Can a single piece of paper hold a stack of coins? If you lay a flat piece of paper between two book stacks, it sags in the middle and cannot hold anything. Paper seems too weak!
But what if you FOLD the paper? Engineers have known for centuries that the shape of a material is just as important as the material itself. A flat piece of steel would bend, but a steel I-beam holds up entire buildings.
Today you are going to test this by building paper bridges between two book stacks and loading them with coins. The bridge that holds the most coins wins!
