White Light Has a Secret
Sunlight looks white or yellow, but it has a secret: it is actually made of ALL the colors mixed together! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet are all hiding inside white light.
How do we know? Because we can split white light apart and see the colors! A scientist named Isaac Newton did this experiment over 350 years ago using a piece of glass called a prism.
When white light passes through a prism, the glass bends each color by a slightly different amount. Red bends the least and violet bends the most. This separates the colors and creates a rainbow on the wall!
Today you are going to split light into rainbows, just like Newton did!
