Bumps and Bruises
Bumps and bruises are even more common than cuts! When you bump into something hard, bump your head, or fall down, you might get a bruise.
A bruise happens when tiny blood vessels under your skin break from the impact. Blood leaks into the surrounding tissue, creating the colorful mark you see. That is why bruises change colors:
- Day 1-2: Red or pink (fresh blood)
- Days 2-5: Blue or dark purple (blood losing oxygen)
- Days 5-7: Green (blood breaking down)
- Days 7-14: Yellow or brown (almost healed!)
- Then it fades away completely
The color changes mean your body is cleaning up the leaked blood. It is actually a sign of healing!
Most bruises are harmless and heal on their own. They might be tender or sore for a few days, but the pain gets less over time.
