Perimeter means the total distance AROUND a shape. Walk along every edge and add up the lengths.
Shortcut for rectangles: 2 x length + 2 x width = 2 x 6 + 2 x 4 = 12 + 8 = 20 feet.
**Think About It:** A square is a special rectangle where all sides are equal. A 5x5 square has perimeter = 4 x 5 = 20 feet.
