The Beaker Challenge
Dr. Ruby the scientist needs exactly 100 mL of water for her experiment. Her beaker has markings at every 10 mL: 10, 20, 30... up to 100.
She pours water and it reaches the 70 mL line. She needs 100 - 70 = 30 more mL.
She adds a little more. Now it reads 95 mL. Almost! She needs 100 - 95 = 5 more mL. Just a tiny bit!
Reading measurement markings is like reading a number line turned sideways. The higher the water goes, the more you have.
**Think About It:** Careful measuring is essential in science. Too much or too little can ruin an experiment!
