Classical Music
Classical music is one of the oldest genres of music. It has been around for hundreds of years! Composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach created masterpieces that people still love today.
Key features of classical music:
Played by an ORCHESTRA, a large group of musicians with many different instruments.
Main instruments: violins, cellos, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, French horns, timpani drums, and piano.
Usually performed in concert halls where the audience sits quietly and listens.
Ranges from soft and gentle to loud and powerful.
Often tells stories or paints pictures through music (like Peter and the Wolf!).
Has complex structures: symphonies, concertos, and sonatas.
Classical music can be exciting, dramatic, peaceful, or playful. It is NOT boring old music! Movie soundtracks, video game music, and TV theme songs often use classical style orchestras.
