Four Traditions, One World
We have traveled to four amazing musical traditions:
Africa: Powerful drumming, polyrhythm, call and response, community participation. Key instrument: djembe.
Japan: Calm and nature-inspired, values silence and simplicity, meditative. Key instrument: koto.
India: Flowing and hypnotic, sliding notes, ragas for different moods, can build from slow to fast. Key instrument: sitar.
Brazil: Energetic and danceable, layered percussion, connected to celebration, community music. Key instrument: surdo (and many more percussion!).
Each tradition is unique and special. Each has been shaped by hundreds or thousands of years of history, culture, and creativity. And each one continues to evolve today, mixing with other traditions to create new and exciting music.
