Why Biodiversity Matters

Biodiversity means 'variety of life.' A place with HIGH biodiversity has many different species of plants, animals, and other living things. Rainforests have the highest biodiversity — thousands of species in one small area! A place with LOW biodiversity has fewer species — like the tundra. Biodiversity is important because every species has a role. Bees pollinate flowers. Worms enrich soil. Predators keep prey populations in check. Every piece matters!
