The Big Extinction
About 66 million years ago, something terrible happened. A huge asteroid (a giant space rock) crashed into Earth! It hit near what is now Mexico. The crash was so powerful it sent dust and ash into the sky, blocking sunlight for months. Without sunlight, plants died. Without plants, herbivores starved. Without herbivores, carnivores starved. About 75% of all species on Earth went extinct — including most dinosaurs!
